Auto Biography Edylma Ixcoy

Hello, my name is Edylma Ixcoy and I'm from Guatemala. And I’m 18, and I was born on April 15, 2006, at Huehuetenango Hospital. My parents were excited about my arrival, but unfortunately, their relationship didn't work out, and they separated shortly after.

When I was 3 years old, my mother decided to live with my maternal grandparents while my father went to the United States to ensure that nothing was lacking during my birth. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned, and they ended up separating. During that time, my mother worked hard in Huehuetenango to ensure we had enough food, even spending over 3,000 Quetzales when I was seriously ill.

At the age of 4, my mother decided to leave me in the care of my maternal grandparents so she could work more effectively. I grew up with them and started primary school at the age of 8. At 11, my father decided to officially recognize me as his daughter, and I changed my last name from Itzep Pérez to Ixcoy Itzep. At 13, I graduated from primary school and started secondary school.

Everything was going well until August 13, 2021, when my maternal grandmother, who was like a mother to me, passed away, which deeply affected me. In October 2021, I decided to reunite with my father in the United States after 16 years, and I succeeded. I arrived in Miami in December 2021, where I was welcomed by my father and uncle. I started attending Slam Palm Beach School in 2022, where although I didn't make many friends at first, eventually I did. Currently, I'm studying to learn English with the help of my teachers. In 2025, I will graduate and continue my studies. I dream of becoming a great veterinarian and I'm determined to achieve it to help many animals.

Ten years from now, I see my career as a veterinarian flourishing. I will have established my own veterinary clinic, where I can provide quality medical care to animals in need. Additionally, I will be involved in community education programs about pet care and the importance of responsible adoption. My commitment to animal welfare will remain my primary motivation, and I hope to inspire others to follow their passions and work towards a world where all animals are treated with love and compassion.
